  • Embracing Web 2.0 & 3.0 tools to support lifelong learning - Let learners connect

    Today's students have grown up surrounded by the digital society, to them traditional teaching is poorly stimulating, for they are used to utilize simultaneously diverse types of media. Learning is within the distance of a click, for those digitally savvy enough. Although, to actually retain knowledge there is still the need to acquire digital skills, soft skills, have digital literacy in order to perform effective research, select information, reflect, collaborate, produce, learn and share knowledge. This article aims to ascertain if, and how, those having these competences with access to digital and virtual tools will be better prepared and motivated for lifelong learning.
  • Visualyzart Project – The role in education

    The VisualYzARt project intends to develop research on mobile platforms, web and social scenarios in order to bring augmented reality and natural interaction for the general public, aiming to study and validate the adequacy of YVision platform in various fields of activity such as digital arts, design, education, culture and leisure. The VisualYzARt project members analysed the components available in YVision platform and are defining new ones that allow the creation of applications to a chosen activity, effectively adding a new language to the domain YVision. In this paper we will present the role of the InstitutoPolitécnico de Santarém which falls into the field of education.
  • Projeto VISUALYZART - testagem da plataforma yvision, visões e perceções dos participantes

    Numa sociedade em que a educação está a tornar-se mais imersiva e a fomentar experiências de aprendizagem onde o estudante tem um papel mais ativo, a Realidade Aumentada (RA) e as Interfaces Naturais (IN) são vistas como metodologias promissoras em contexto de sala de aula. Contudo, estas tecnologias são dispendiosas e algo complexas do ponto de vista técnico. Neste artigo apresentamos o projeto VisualYzArt e a plataforma YVision. O projeto VisualYzArt pretende estudar e validar a aplicação da plataforma YVision em diversos domínios, tais como as artes digitais, o design, a educação, a cultura e o lazer. Esta plataforma tem como objetivo trazer a RA e as IN para o público em geral, possibilitando especificar, desenhar e programar estes sistemas de uma forma gráfica. Apresentamos ainda o papel do Instituto Politécnico de Santarém, que se enquadra no domínio da educação. Analisam-se dados recolhidos sobre a utilização da plataforma YVision, tendo em conta a perceção e as reflecções de participantes, recolhidas através de questionário, após testagem dos componentes disponíveis na plataforma.
  • Competences and learning profiles of digital age's students

    In the connected world we live in today, people no longer look for information only in formal places. Internet has become a place of choice to gather information. Social networks have grown from places for socialization to platforms where knowledge is created and shared, where connectivity and collaboration are natural. Many people look at the web as a place for learning, using it to create a network which allows them to gather, select, share, reshape ideas and create knowledge to then replicate on social networks. Students' learning profile is becoming more proactive in the search for information and constructing valid knowledge. The demands of the information age raise the necessity of students to acquire different skills and competences – 21st century skills. This chapter aims to present the different students' learning profiles and the type of learning environments available online.
