- Body Composition and Physical Fitness Analysis in Different Field Position U-15 Soccer PlayersPublication . Espada, Mário; Figueiredo, Teresa; Ferreira, Cátia; SANTOS, FERNANDO JORGE LOURENÇO DOSThe individual characteristics related to anthropometry, body composition, and physical capacities are important in the performance of soccer players, especially in terms of field position, which isone of the aspects to be considered in talent identification. A total of 48 soccer players under15 years of agewere evaluated using a Tanita UM076scale (body composition), Ergojump system (lower limb strength), handgrip (maximum isometric strength of hand and forearm muscles), Illinois agility test (agility), 30-meter sprint test (speed), and sit and reach test (flexibility). IBM SPSS 24 was used for data analysis, namely, descriptive analysis, analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA)andTukey posteriori test (p < 0.05) to confirm significant differences regarding the soccer players different field positions factor.Pearson's correlation test (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05) was used to confirm the existence of correlations between variables. We observedstatistically significant differences between players from different field positions in terms of body composition and agility. Strong correlations were verifiedbetweenthe body composition variables, as well as between the variables of physical capacities and when analyzing body composition relationship to physical capacities. Our results point to the fact that soccer players of certain field positions present specific characteristics. This informationcan help coachesto optimize training tasks and performance enhancementsduringthe soccer game. In addition, these results canprovide support in the definition ofevaluation criteria for anthropomet

- Detraining and retraining effects from a multicomponent training program on the functional capacity and health profile of physically active prehypertensive older womenPublication . Leitão, Luis; Campos, Yuri; Louro, Hugo; Figueira, Ana Cristina Corrêa; Figueiredo, Teresa; Pereira, Ana; Conceição, Ana; Marinho, Daniel A.; Neiva, Henrique P.Background: Resuming a physical exercise program after a period of cessation is common in older women. Monitoring the responses during this detraining (DT) and retraining (RT) may allow us to analyze how the body reacts to an increase and a reduction in physical inactivity. Therefore, we conducted a follow-up training, DT, and RT in prehypertensive older women to analyze the response to these periods. Methods: Twenty-three prehypertensive older women (EG; 68.3 ± 2.8 years; 1.61 ± 0.44 m) performed 36 weeks of the multicomponent training program (MTP) followed by twelve weeks of DT plus eight weeks of RT. Fifteen prehypertensive older women (CG; 66.3 ± 3.2 years; 1.59 ± 0.37 m) maintained their normal routine. Functional capacity (FC), lipid, and hemodynamic profile were assessed before, during 24 and 36 weeks of the MTP, after 4 and 12 weeks of DT, and after 8 weeks of RT. Results: After 24 weeks of the MTP, only SBP did not improve. Four weeks of DT did not affect lower body strength (30-CS), TC, or GL. Eight weeks of RT improved BP (SBP: −2.52%; ES: 0.36; p < 0.00; DBP: −1.45%; ES: 0.44; p < 0.02), handgrip strength (3.77%; ES: 0.51; p < 0.00), and 30-CS (3.17%; ES: 0.38; p < 0.04) compared with 36 weeks of the MTP. Conclusions: Eight weeks of RT allowed patients to recover the benefits lost with detraining, which after only four weeks affected them negatively, and the systematic practice of exercise contributed to greater regulation of BP since 24 weeks of the MTP proved not to be enough to promote positive effects of SBP.
- Multicomponent exercise program for improvement of functional capacity and lipidic profile of older women with high cholesterol and high triglyceridesPublication . Leitão, Luis; Marocolo, Moacir; Souza, Hiago; Arriel, Rhai; Vieira, João; Mazini, Mauro; Figueiredo, Teresa; Louro, Hugo; Pereira, AnaBackground: Physical inactivity is a primary cause of most chronic diseases. In addition, the negative effects of aging, physical inactivity and dyslipidemia are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases of older women. Exercise is considered fundamental for the treatment and prevention due to the benefits in the health of this population, but detraining periods after exercise can reverse them. Multicomponent exercise (ME) is a combined method of aerobic and resistance training that can improve the lipidic profile of older women with high cholesterol and triglycerides. Methods: Seventeen older women (EG: 65.3 ± 4.7 years, 1.52 ± 4.12 m) followed a supervised ME program of nine months and three months of detraining (DT), and fifteen older women (CG: 66.4 ± 5.2 years, 1.54 ± 5.58 cm) continued their daily routine, without exercise. Total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), blood glucose (GL) and functional capacity (FC) were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the program and after three months of DT. Results: ME program improved (p < 0.05) lipidic profile: GL (−15.6%), TC (−15.3%), TG (−19.3%) and FC: agility (−13.3%), lower body strength (27.78%), upper body strength (26.3%), cardiorespiratory capacity (11.2%), lower body flexibility (66.67%) and upper body flexibility (85.72%). DT declined the lipidic profile and FC (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Lipidic profile and functional capacity can be improved with nine months of ME. Besides the negative effects of DT, three months were not enough to reverse the benefits of exercise in older women with high values of TG and TC
- Physiological and physical effect on U-12 and U-15 football players, with the manipulation of task constraints: field size and goalkeeper in small-sided games of 4x4 playersPublication . SANTOS, FERNANDO JORGE LOURENÇO DOS; Figueiredo, Teresa; Ferreira, Cátia; Espada, MárioOur study aimed to verify whether the task constraints manipulation has different effects according to age group. Another objective was to verify the physiological and physical responses in the different formats of small-sided games (SSG). Each team in the SSGs was composed of 4 players (4x4). The participants in the research were young football players U-12 (n=8) and U-15 (n=8), affiliated with a club certified as a training entity, and competing, respectively, in the 7 and 9-a-side regional football championships and the national championship of Portugal. The internal and external load data was collected in 5 formats of SSGs with three field sizes and in 2 used goalkeepers. We used the WIMU PROTM inertial device for data collection. The registration of the internal charge, using heart rate (HR), was performed with the use by the players of Garmin bands, which send the data to WIMU PROTM devices, through of Ant+ technology. The variance analysis (ANOVA) was used to verify the differences between SSGs and the effect size was determined by calculating partial eta-square . Comparisons between the two age groups were evaluated using standardized differences with combined variance(Cohen’s d). The results show that the manipulation of the playing areas and the use of goalkeepers participation promoted different effects in the two age groups in terms of distance, explosive distance, accelerations/decelerations and maximum sprint. As for the comparison between SSGs we found differences in the level of external load (distance, accelerations/ decelerations and maximum sprint). At the level of internal load, the effects were more evident with field areas above 100m2. We can conclude that the task constraints manipulation, playing area and goalkeeper participation, promote different physical and physiological responses, and the coach should consider this fact, as well as the effects promoted in the age groups.
- Relation of coaches’ expectations with instruction and behavior of athletesPublication . SANTOS, FERNANDO JORGE LOURENÇO DOS; Louro, Hugo; Espada, Mário; Figueiredo, Teresa; Lopes, Hélder; Rodrigues, JoséThis study aims to identify the expectations of the coaches on the instruction and behavior of athletes. The second objective is to correlate the expectations of the coaches with the instruction behavior of coaches and with the behavior of athletes in competition. Aiming to achieve these purpose four coaches of youth soccer teams that competed in the national championships in Portugal were studied. We applied observation systems SAIC and SOCAC to encode behaviors of coach's instruction and the behavior of athletes in competition, respectively. To data collection on expectations, the coaches responded to the Questionnaire about Expectations of Instruction and Behavior of Athletes in Competition. The results show that there is short relation between the coach's expectations and what actually happens in competition regarding the instruction behavior and the behavior of athletes.
- Termografia, efeito do aquecimento no andebol. Estudo pilotoPublication .
