Abstract(s)
The objective of the present study was to verify the beneficial effects of the ozone application by irrigation and spraying on the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) crop in hydroponics, with evaluation of plant growth and vegetative state, yield and fruit quality. Additionally, the ability to disinfect and clean the irrigation system with the application of ozone was also evaluated. Given the growing need to develop more ecological and sustainable practices and alternatives in the agricultural sector, ozone (O3) appears to be an alternative that aims to improve the root system of plants, expansion of the leaf area and plant health, which will result in better fruit quality and yield. Seven modalities with different variables were tested, two modalities with ozone application in irrigation, one with 100% fertilization, the other at 50%, with fungicide application (IO3+Ft100%+Fg e IO3+Ft50%+Fg); another modality with the application of ozone in irrigation with 100% fertilization and spraying with ozone (IO3+Sp.O3+Ft100%); another modality with only application of ozone by spraying and 100% fertilization (Sp.O3+Ft100%); the controls did not have any type of ozone application, they varied among themselves only in the fertilization percentage, 50% and 100%, and in the application or not of fungicide(Control/Ft50%+Fg; Control/Ft50% -Fg e Control/Ft100%+Fg). The evaluations of plant development parameters were performed at 20, 50, 70, 100 and 120 days after planting. The evaluations of fruit quality parameters and plant root system were performed at the end of the trial. The results showed that the application of ozone has beneficial effects on plant development, resulting in greater fruit weight and more homogeneous maturation, with more than 42% of ripe fruit. Although there were no significant improvements in fruit quality parameters, there were no losses in fruit quality either. This indicates that the application of ozone to plants by irrigation and/or spraying does not have negative effects on the quality of tomato fruits. This test also allowed to verify the beneficial effect of ozone in the disinfection and cleaning of irrigation systems, proving to be an asset in the agricultural sector, improving the plant health of crops and irrigation systems
