Abstract(s)
In the early childhood, affordances (opportunities), provided by the home environment, are essential resources for the promotion of motor actions (Gabbard, 2008). This study intends to analyse the relationship between playful affordances of the family environment and ontogenetic characteristics of children aged between 18 and 42 months, in the municipality of Caldas da Rainha. The data were collected from the responses to the questionnaire AHEMD - SR 18-42 months) (Rodrigues, Saraiva & Gabbard, 2005), complemented with questions for ontogenetic characterization of the child. The results revealed that the female gender has significantly higher opportunities for fine and gross motor skills and total playful affordances. The monthly income was the variable most strongly associated positively to the total AHEMD score. The significant inverse association between the number of siblings and the total score of the AHEMD, allows to deduce that in the families with more siblings there is a less diversified playful offer.
