Abstract(s)
Escolar e Ensino do 1º CEB.
This internship report was prepared in the framework of the Master’s degree in Pre - School Education and teaching the first cycle of primary education. In the first part are made known a set of experiences and learning experiences experienced in the various contexts of internship (Nursery, Kindergarten and 1st Cycle of Basic Education) and a reflection is presented about the practice developed along my career as an intern and future professional. The second part consists of the investigative component, which is based on the central question of the research: “What are the contributions and potentialities of manipulative materials in the teaching of mathematics?”. The participants in this study were twenty children from kindergarten room, students from a 2nd year of the 1st cycle of primary education and students of a 3rd and 4th grade class, an educator and two teachers from the 1st cycle of primary education, who accompanied me through the internships. In this sense, the research was carried out through a qualitative methodology of descriptive and interpretative character. Data collection is carried out through informal interviews, photographs and written productions of four of four episodes of a teaching experience involving maipulable materials. Through data analysis, it can be concluded that manipulable materials have contributed to the deepening of some mathematical learning, in particular with regard to counting, decomposition of numbers, addition and subtraction, the meaning of multiplication as repeated addition of equal plots, comparison of rationals in decimal representation and problem solving. In addition, they arouse interest and motivation in children/students during the performance of mathematical activities.
