A Educação para a Cidadania tem-se revelado um pilar essencial na formação de cidadãos ativos e conscientes, especialmente nas primeiras etapas da educação básica. Esta dissertação tem como objetivo explorar a implementação da Educação para a Cidadania no 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, destacando a importância de promover valores como responsabilidade social, sustentabilidade ambiental e direitos humanos desde cedo. O estudo foca-se em estratégias pedagógicas aplicáveis, bem como nos desafios e oportunidades que surgem na integração deste tema nas práticas educativas diárias. A análise fundamenta-se em referências nacionais e internacionais, como as diretrizes da OCDE, da União Europeia e da ONU, evidenciando a importância de uma abordagem transversal que envolva a escola, a comunidade e as famílias. Conclui-se que a escola, enquanto espaço de formação, tem um papel decisivo na construção de sociedades mais democráticas e inclusivas, sendo a Educação para a Cidadania essencial na preparação dos alunos para uma participação responsável na sociedade.
Citizenship Education has proven to be an essential pillar in the formation of active and conscious citizens, especially in the early stages of basic education. This dissertation aims to explore the implementation of Citizenship Education in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, highlighting the importance of promoting values such as social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and human rights from an early age. The study focuses on applicable pedagogical strategies as well as the challenges and opportunities that arise in integrating this topic into daily educational practices. The analysis is based on national and international references, such as the guidelines from the OECD, the European Union, and the UN, emphasizing the importance of a transversal approach that involves the school, the community, and families. It concludes that the school, as a formative space, plays a decisive role in building more democratic and inclusive societies, with Citizenship Education being essential in preparing students for responsible participation in society.
