Pretende-se com este texto fazer uma breve reflexão sobre o papel da ciência, com especial ênfase nas ciências matemáticas e físicas, na obra literária de Júlio Verne, mas também sobre a importância do seu trabalho na divulgação do conhecimento científico. Júlio Verne viveu numa época em que ocorreram grandes desenvolvimentos científicos que afectaram a vida quotidiana das pessoas comuns. Encarado no século XX como um profeta da modernidade, Verne foi também um divulgador das descobertas e dos problemas científicos do seu tempo. - This article intends to be a reflection about the importance of science, specially mathematics and physics, in the writing of Jules Verne, but also about the role played by his work in the propagation of scientific knowledge. Jules Verne lived in an epoch of great scientific development with high influence in the day-to-day life of common people. Seen in the 20th century as a prophet of modernity, Verne was also a divulger of the scientific problems and discoveries of his time.
