Abstract(s)
This work, carried out at a logistics distribution base, studies the presence of the heavy metals mercury (Hg), lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in fishery products. The analytical plan, carried out by an external laboratory, and the results obtained were used to quantify the concentration of Hg, Pb and Cd in the fish products supplied to the logistics base. The study covered eleven species of fish, nine species of molluscs, four cephalopods and five bivalves, and one species of crustacean, in 2017, 2018 and 2019. After analysing the data analysis and processing reports, it was found that only three species, two of molluscs and one of fish, showed results above the legal limits (Reg. UE 915/2023), although the residual presence of heavy metals was detected in other species. Analysing the data, it can be concluded that the concentration of Hg, Pb and Cd complies with European legislation in most of the samples. The frequency of analyses should be maintained or intensified in the species with the highest percentage of non-compliance, squid with 67% and bream with 38%. The sampling effort for other fishery products seems to be in line with the results found, and could be intensified if the percentage of non-compliances for Hg, Pb or Cd increases.
