A violência na intimidade atualmente é uma das preocupações, porque afeta mulheres e homens de todo o mundo, mas mais mulheres de forma isolada. Também faz parte da chamada questão social, revelando formas de dominação e opressão desencadeadoras de conflitos. A violência na intimidade, x que geralmente se denomina de “violência doméstica”, é mundialmente considerada como uma violação de direitos humanos. Neste estudo objetivamos clarificar os fatores associados à violência doméstica na mulher idosa, bem como perceber se as crenças das mulheres idosas, vítimas de violência doméstica, são um fator de risco. Assente numa metodologia de caráter qualitativo, entrevistaram-se quatro mulheres idosas, vítimas de violência doméstica, de forma a compreender os motivos que as levaram a ter casamentos duradouros com violência e a identificar qual o perfil dos agressores. Com base nos dados recolhidos, entendeu-se que as mulheres mantiveram-se nestas relações x pelos filhos e por vergonha do que os outros pudessem pensar, uma vez que sociedade em que viveram, bem como a sua educação primária, não via a violência doméstica como um problema, mas sim como um ato normal entre os casais. Por um lado, estas mulheres sentem-se culpadas de toda a sua vida ter sido vivida num ciclo de violência doméstica, minimizando por vezes alguns episódios. Por outro lado, não tinham conhecimento do funcionamento das entidades de 1ª linha e de como estas as podiam ter ajudado, mas sabem atualmente da sua existência.Conclui-se que muito há a fazer no apoio a vítimas de violência, devido ao facto de muitas destas idosas não terem conhecimento acerca dos procedimentos para por fim à violência vivida. Seria muito mais positivo que as medidas adotadas por estas entidades não fossem tanto de caráter remediativo, ou seja, se as medidas de afastamento fossem deliberadas em tempo útil, as vítimas não teriam que recorrer a casas abrigo ou a casas de familiares. Estas sentem a solidão, necessitando de alguém que, de uma forma amiga e solidária, as possa escutar, compreender e ajudar.

Intimate violence is one of the biggest issues nowadays, because it affects women and men from all over the world, especially women in isolation. It is also part of the socalled “social issue”, revealing forms of domination and oppression that lead to a conflict. Intimate violence, commonly called as “domestic violence,” is considered a violation of human rights worldwide. In this study we want to clarify the factors associated with domestic violence in elderly women, as well as to understand if the beliefs of elderly women, victims of domestic violence, are a risk factor. Based on a qualitative methodology, we interviewed four elderly women, who were victims of domestic violence, in order to perceive the reasons that led them to have lasting marriages with violence and to identify the offenders' profiles. Based on the information collected, it was considered that women maintained these relationships because of their children and by the shame of what others might think, since the society in which they lived, as well as their primary education, did not see domestic violence as a problem, but rather as a normal act between couples. On the other hand, these women feel guilty that their whole life has been lived in a cycle of domestic violence, sometimes minimizing some episodes. Still, they did not know how the first-tier entities worked and how they could have helped them, but today they already know of their existence.As conclusion, there is much to be done to support victims of violence, due to the fact that many of these elderly women are unaware of the procedures to end the violence experienced. It would be much positive if the measures taken by these entities were not only of remedial character, that is, the removal measures should be deliberated in time, so that the victims did not have to find shelter in shelter houses or family homes. They feel solitude and they need someone who, in a friendly and supportive way, can listen, understand and help them.
