Abstract(s)
O presente trabalho enquadra-se no curso de mestrado em Educação Social e
Intervenção Comunitária da Escola Superior de Educação de Santarém e aborda o tema do
envelhecimento da população, fenómeno crescente nas sociedades atuais que representa para
muitos idosos uma etapa da vida associada a situações de vulnerabilidade e de exclusão
social. Consideramos, por isso, que corresponde a um âmbito de atuação importante no
domínio da educação social e sobre o qual importa refletir.
Com o presente estudo procuramos conhecer e distinguir necessidades sociais de
idosos em diferentes contextos de inserção (Lar de Idosos, Centro de Dia e comunidade) na
cidade de Samora Correia, equacionando a atuação do Educador Social neste domínio.
O estudo segue uma metodologia quantitativa, de carácter exploratório, procurando
comparar os grupos observados – abrange cento e três indivíduos, nomeadamente vinte e um
no contexto Lar de Idosos, vinte e cinco em Centro de Dia e cinquenta e sete na comunidade,
aos quais foi aplicado um inquérito por questionário. Complementarmente, foi também
realizada pesquisa documental.
A partir da informação recolhida, foram identificadas quatro áreas-problema
(Solidão/Isolamento Social; Envelhecimento Ativo/Ocupação do Tempo; Formação de
Profissionais; Combate ao preconceito e estereótipos), relativamente às quais se refletiu sobre
possibilidades de atuação do Educador Social.
This work was developed in the Master Course in Social Education and Community Intervention of Santarém School of Education and addresses the aging subject. This growing phenomenon in contemporary societies represents for many seniors a stage of life associated to situations of vulnerability and social exclusion. We consider, therefore, that this subject is of maximum relevance in the field of social education. We seek to know and distinguish social needs of elderly people in different contexts of insertion (Home for the Elderly, Day Centre, community) in the city of Samora Correia; we also try to foresee the role of the social educator in this field. The study follows a quantitative methodology of exploratory nature, seeking to compare the observed groups - covers one hundred and three individuals, including twentyone in the context Home for the Elderly, twenty-five in a Day Centre and fifty-seven in the community, to which we applied a questionnaire survey. In addition, it was also carried out documentary research. From the information gathered we identified four problem areas (Loneliness/Social isolation; Active Ageing/Time Occupation; Professional training; Combat to prejudice and stereotypes), from which we reflect on the possibilities of action of the Social Educator.
