Abstract(s)
This final report on Supervised Teaching Practice for the Master's Degree in Pre-School Education at the Escola Superior de Educação de Santarém includes, in the first part, an analysis and reflection on the learning provided by the pedagogical practices developed during the internships in Nursery School and Kindergarten. The second part consists of an investigative component aimed at understanding the importance of outdoor space and nature for children's development. The outdoors is a catalyst for the development of children's social skills and knowledge of the world. A qualitative and interpretative study was carried out involving children from two early childhood education groups. Data was collected through participant observation, photographic records, field notes and documentary analysis. The results showed the skills fostered through activities that promoted the use of the outdoors as an educational environment. These pedagogical proposals contributed to the development of knowledge of the world, since the children came into contact with natural materials, understanding the difference between these and commercial materials, discovered that there are different colours and textures of tree leaves and also learned what living beings and non-living beings are. With regard to the development of personal and social skills, it was possible to see that through moments of discussion, the children shared the work they had done, the materials they had used and what they had observed, they developed mutual help and co-operation, as well as the ability to observe and concentrate. As far as the development of autonomy and creativity are concerned, these were notable since there were moments of exploration of the space and the children were autonomous in their realisation and elaboration of the visual arts tasks.
