Abstract(s)
This report presents the internship experience in a Temporary Reception Centre (CAT), in 2019, lasting 395 hours. The internship started on February 19th and the last day was June 1st, 2019. The internship was held from Tuesday to Saturday and from March 2nd the internship alternated on Saturdays and Sundays. Welcoming children/youths in a Temporary Reception Centre is a measure of protection and safeguarding the rights of children/young people who are exposed to conditions that hinder their development in the environment where they live. In addition, the CAT aims to protect children/youths in danger and provide conditions that promote safety, health, education, well-being and their development. In this line of ideas, professionals must ensure that the needs of children and young people are met, always based on respect for each one. During the internship, activities were developed based on two lines of intervention, namely within the scope of the Conviviality Project proposed by CAT and the implementation of strategies to support the study. With regards to the Social Educator in this context, we can point out that he/she has a fundamental role, as he/she performs several functions, including guidance, encouragement, dynamizing and activating institutionalized children and young people. It should be noted that this professional must give a voice to children and young people and safeguard their best interests, ensuring that their rights are fulfilled and respected.
