This report is the result of the training program developed in the Master's Degree in Preschool Education and Primary School Teaching, structured in two parts: pedagogical practice and research. The first part describes experiences in daycare, preschool, and elementary school; the second part focuses on qualitative and interpretive research on professional practice. The study values outdoor space in child development and analyzes how children and teachers conceive of the “ideal playground.” Semi-structured interviews and direct observation, supported by photographic records and drawings, were used to collect data. The results reveal that the ideal recess is understood as a large space, organized into distinct areas, with movable materials, fixed structures, natural elements, games, and human resources. More than just a break, recess is seen as an educational space that promotes freedom of movement, active participation, and learning essential to the child's overall development.
