Abstract(s)
An investigative exercise is presented about the practice carried out through the observations and experiences that took place during the traineeship course within the scope of the Master’s Degree in Pre-School Education in a pre-school context. From the methodological point of view, the work fits in a qualitative approach, being based on the research-action methodology, where the main objective is the design and development of a curricular project based on the research on the outdoor free play. Today, the pedagogical practice in childhood education contexts is mainly focused on what happens inside the classroom, ignoring the potential of the institution’s outdoor space for child welfare and development. This study aims to investigate the possibilities of outdoor spaces in children development and learning, valuing free play, the contact with nature and the experiences of challenge, as enhancers of healthy growth, thus raising educators’ awareness to the need for change in the performance and organization of outdoor spaces. These can be transformed into richer spaces that encourage diverse games and challenging activities.
