Abstract(s)
The present report was elaborated in the scope of the teaching practice of the Master in Education of 1st and 2nd Cycles of Basic Education. This document reflects and describes the apprenticeship fulfilled in educational context. The developed study emerged from the same context, focusing, only, in the 2nd Cycle of Education. This study addresses the relationship between scholar disciplines of Portuguese and Mathematics, in particular, solving Mathematical problems and exercises, being that, it is our intention to demonstrate that not being able to understand the mathematical problem statements has a direct influence in putting together a solving strategy. An articulated approach to these two disciplines helped to lessen mathematical problem solving. The applied method is of a quantitative nature and the present results are a reflection of the teaching – learning activity. The obtained results measure the importance of language knowledge (Portuguese) in mathematical problem solving, demonstrating that subjects are aware of language influence in the mathematical learning process. We verified an improvement in understanding mathematical problem statements by including language development tasks (text analysis and reading) in the teaching process.
