Abstract(s)
The Center of Excellence in Diving project, is free, with a social focus, focused on the training of high performance athletes. However, the stay rate verified between 2014 and 2017 was only 39.75%. Given the above, the objective was to evaluate the difficulties encountered by children and adolescents in this project, and to propose ways of encouraging them to stay, identifying possible partnerships with Brasilia Federal Institute. The nature of the research was qualitative-quantitative, with a case study, having as data collection instruments: bibliographic research, documentary research and semistructured questionnaires, applied to 23 children and adolescents who joined the project in 2014 to 2015, in the age group of 10 to 15 years, and 14 responsible for them. Based on the motivational theory, important extrinsic factors were identified: physical space, training routine, communication, health, study, and entry, integration and competition events. As intrinsic factors: the meaning of being a high performance athlete, perceived safety, pain and time as not excessive, acceptance of the training routine, feeling of intrapersonal and interpersonal trust, belonging to the group and personal appreciation. For all these aspects, we suggest adaptations in the physical space, insertion of more ludic activities with a focus on training, psychosocial mapping of families and athletes, improvements in communication and trust relationship between athlete and coach, orientation and nutritional monitoring, incentive to the regular and extracurricular study, the accomplishment of events of entrance, competition and integration, planned with specialists in events in partnership with the IFB, a social educator in the composition of the multidisciplinary team of the project.
