Abstract(s)
The microbiome is the dynamic set of microorganisms that live in the various systems of the human body and play a vital role in the health-disease process of each individual. Its initial colonization is influenced by several factors that can make it more or less healthy. In order to map the scientific evidence on the influence of vaginal delivery on the newborn's microbiome, a Scoping Review was carried out based on the question “What is the influence of vaginal delivery on the newborn’s microbiome?”. This review was based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for Scoping Reviews. Through the research, carried out at EBSCOhost and Pubmed, six articles were included in the review from which relevant themes emerged about the initial colonization of the microbiome. The results point to the importance of promoting a vaginal delivery, which, combined with other factors such as breastfeeding and skin-to-skin contact, can favor the development of a tendentially healthier microbiome relating as well as the specialized competencies of the Midwife.
