Abstract(s)

From the analysis of some professional and personal dimensions of waste pickers' life, the goal is to understand more about their perspectives on working, personal and social conditions as pikers of solid waste organized in recycling work cooperative; identifying their main difficulties, constraints and needs and seeking to know how the cooperative recycling work movement contributes to the possible development of its social inclusion process. From the methodological and technical point of view, a qualitative approach was applied, through interviews and the development of observation. It was possible to realize that waste pickers are not socially included. They lack education, health, proper income, they have precarious working conditions, it is a highly vulnerable group; in spite of the cooperativism of work via recycling cooperative, providing employment in this environment can be considered as the perverse face of the inclusion.
