This report was developed within the scope of the Master’s Degree in Preschool Education, undertaken at the School of Education of Santarém, Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, during the academic years 2024/2025 and 2025/2026. This document aims to reflect on my journey throughout the three Supervised Teaching Practices, carried out in both Nursery and Kindergarten settings, highlighting the main challenges and learning experiences encountered along the way. In addition, it seeks to present an investigative study on natural elements as promoters of children’s creativity and well-being, as well as on a waste material—specifically cardboard boxes. The research took place in two different contexts: a Kindergarten classroom within a Private Institution of Social Solidarity and a Kindergarten classroom belonging to the public network, both located in the Ribatejo region. It is an experimental, mixed-methods study involving direct observation, video recording, an interview with the cooperating educator, and a questionnaire administered to parents/guardians. The central research question guiding this investigation was: “How can the exploration of natural elements and selected waste materials contribute to the promotion of children’s creativity and well-being?” To address this question, the following objectives were defined: (i) to observe how children transform natural elements and waste materials, assigning them new functions and meanings; (ii) to analyse the symbolic play that emerges from the exploration of these materials, identifying processes of imagination, representation, and pretend play; and (iii) to reflect on the pedagogical potential of these materials as resources that foster experimentation, imagination, and meaning-making. The results of the study highlight the potential of children’s interaction with natural elements and waste materials in promoting their creative capacity, symbolic expressions, and engagement with the materials.
