Abstract(s)
Childbirth is a unique process that causes intense changes, both physical and emotional, in a short space of time, and is a fundamental moment in the journey of becoming a mother. Anticipating labour can cause anxiety and fear, as it is perceived as a new, unpredictable, painful and uncomfortable experience. Hypnobirthing is a therapeutic approach that uses hypnosis and deep relaxation techniques to help women during labour, promoting a more positive and peaceful birth experience. A scoping review was carried out based on the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute (2020), investigating the research question ‘What are the benefits of hypnobirthing during labour?’. Six articles were found in the PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE and RCAAP databases. By reducing the fear and anxiety associated with labour, hypnobirthing contributes to a lower perception of pain, resulting in a reduction in pharmacological pain relief measures. It is associated with a higher incidence of physiological births, less need for medical interventions and a reduction in the duration of labour. These benefits improve the physical experience of labour, but also promote an immediate bond between mother and baby and greater overall satisfaction with the labour and birth process. Hypnobirthing is therefore an important tool for Maternal and Obstetric Health Nurse Specialists (Midwives) as it can significantly contribute to these positive outcomes. Fieldwork was carried out using the qualitative paradigm of a descriptive nature to explore the research question: ‘What are women's experiences during labour with the application of hypnobirthing tools?’. The choice of this paradigm was aimed at gaining a detailed and in-depth understanding of the experiences of women who use hypnobirthing during the labour process. This internship report also reflects the development of learning competences for the provision of specialised care in the field of Maternal Health and Obstetrics, based on Kristen Swanson's theory of caring (1991).
