| dc.description.abstract | Este artigo visa compreender os motivos da ocorrência do massacre na Virgínia Tech e fá-lo à luz da teoria ética da virtude. A tese defendida no artigo é que as sociedades materialmente desenvolvidas estão a perder a sua matriz identitária e os laços e valores comunitários estão a ser substituídos por um cultura que valoriza o sucesso material, não dando espaço para o florescimento pessoal dos que ficam à margem do progresso material. Defende-se, neste artigo, um regresso a uma educação do carácter de tipo comunitarista e que, inspirada na ética aristotélica, avalie a pessoa por aquilo que ela é e não por aquilo que ela tem. - This article has a main goal: to understand the motivation of the Virginia Tech massacre. The virtues ethics is used as the main theoretical framework to understand those motives. The article opposes the individualistic ethic approach to a communitarian approach inspired in Aristotelic ethical thought. The article stands for a return to a more realistic and communitarian ethic approach based on an evaluation of what the person is and not on an evaluation of what the person has. | por |
