Abstract(s)
seca (19,0% e 17,4%, respetivamente) e maior teor proteico (10% e 11,5%). Já os cortes
6sP20 e 6sP21 evidenciaram maiores teores de matéria seca (26,9% e 26,3%), mas
menor teor de proteína (8,2% e 8,3%)
” Abstract An experimental trial was conducted in a mid-altitude area of São Miguel Island to study the influence of growth interval and year of pasture establishment on the yield and quality of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). The trial took place in two plots located at an average altitude of 520 meters: Plot A was sown in 2020 (P20), and Plot B in 2021 (P21), both with perennial ryegrass. Harvests were carried out at two growth intervals: 4 and 6 weeks (4s, 6s). Throughout the trial, vegetative growth (height) and initial establishment were consistently greater in Plot B compared to Plot A. In the 4sP21 cut, the maximum height reached was 58.8 cm, while in 4sP20 it was 57.4 cm. A similar trend was observed in the 6-week cuts: 83.2 cm in 6sP21 and 79.8 cm in 6sP20. In Plot A, the total fresh matter (FM) yield accumulated between April and June was 46,455 kg/ha for the 4-week interval (4sP20) and 48,988 kg/ha for the 6-week interval (6sP20). In Plot B, the values increased significantly, reaching 66,805 kg/ha in 4sP21 and 55,868 kg/ha in 6sP21. In terms of nutritional content, the 4sP20 and 4sP21 cuts showed lower dry matter (DM) content (19.0% and 17.4%, respectively) and higher crude protein content (10% and 11.5%). In contrast, the 6sP20 and 6sP21 cuts had higher dry matter content (26.9% and 26.3%) but lower protein content (8.2% and 8.3%)
