Este trabalho analisa a viabilidade económica da cultura do arroz em
Portugal, nomeadamente na região do Ribatejo e Alentejo. O estudo aborda o
desenvolvimento histórico, as características botânicas e as exigências
edafoclimáticas da cultura do arroz. Destaca-se a importância de Portugal como o
quarto maior produtor europeu de arroz, com uma área de cultivo de cerca de
28.000 hectares, concentrada principalmente no Vale do Tejo, Sorraia, Mondego
e Sado. A investigação examina o impacto da Política Agrícola Comum (PAC) na
produção de arroz, detalhando as várias fases de implementação e as reformas
subsequentes na região do Ribatejo e Alentejo. São analisados os apoios
financeiros, as medidas de desenvolvimento rural e as alterações nas políticas de
preços e mercados. Esta análise visa determinar a rentabilidade da produção de
arroz em diferentes cenários e nas mencionadas regiões de Portugal. O estudo
inclui uma análise económica detalhada, baseada em dados recolhidos nas
campanhas de 2023 e 2024, apresentando contas de cultura para diferentes grupos
de produtores.
This study analyzes the economic viability of rice cultivation in Portugal, particularly in the Ribatejo and Alentejo regions. It addresses the historical development, botanical characteristics, and edaphoclimatic requirements of rice cultivation.Portugal's significance as the fourth largest European rice producer, with a cultivation area of approximately 28,000 hectares mainly concentrated in the Tejo, Sorraia, Mondego, and Sado valleys, is highlighted.The research examines the impact of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on rice production, detailing its various implementation phases and subsequent reforms in the Ribatejo and Alentejo regions. Financial support, rural development measures, and changes in price and market policies are analyzed. This analysis aims to determine the profitability of rice production under different scenarios and in the aforementioned regions of Portugal. The study includes a detailed economic analysis based on data from the 2023 and 2024 campaigns, presenting crop accounts for various groups of producers.
