- Levels of assertiveness and cooperation in the student population during the pandemic period:data from higher educationPublication . Galinha, Sónia Alexandre; São João, RicardoWithin this pandemic associated with Covid-19, psychological health occupies a prominent place as a result of a situation of forced isolation. Mental health, it is ever so pressing to know and preserve, particularly in the young adult. These changes affect more vulnerable population groups among them students. Students express and reflect their psychological health needs, their beliefs, competences and abilities, functionalities, weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and their risks and dangers within the framework of global public health. Assertiveness is conceived as a bilateral behaviour that emphasizes the importance of considering the desires, thoughts and feelings of both the sender and the recipient of the assertive message, predictive of academic success. Cooperation is conceived as the ability to jointly operationalize knowledge, attitudes and skills with a view to achieving a common purpose. OBJECTIVE to present the results of the application of the Global Assertiveness Assessment Scale (EAGA) and the findings levels of the Global Cooperation Assessment Scale (EAGA), applied in the pandemic period in higher education. SAMPLE The study used a non-probabilistic sample for convenience of 101 Portuguese higher education students. INSTRUMENTS Global Assertiveness Assessment Scale (EAGA) and Global Cooperation Assessment Scale (EAGC), Likert. ADMINISTRATION Online administered survey SOCIODEMOGRAFIC PROFILE Most of the participants are females (88%). The average age is 21.25 years old (± 3,86 years) with the youngest and oldest student respectively 19 and 27 years old. The majority of students (50%) live with their families, 26% with their friends, 13.5% other choose, and the lowest percentage of students lives in a residence/rented room (10.6%). Most of respondents are single (98%). The median travel time from the student's address to the university is 20 minutes (inter-quartile range: 40 minutes). Additionally, it appears that in students who travel daily distances in each route greater than 30 km, 72% do so in public transport, the rest being by their own vehicle. Approximate distance, in Km, of the route (one way) that the student takes daily from his address to the educational institution during the class period: 54% [0;5[ km. Sociodemographic variables were also used, which seemed promising in contextualizing, interpreting, and discussing the results. The value of the sample mean obtained at EAGA=31 (± 5.53), thus revealing a high assertive competence who attend higher education and EAGC=35 (± 6.5), thus revealing a high cooperation. We argue that signaling and monitoring of less favorable cases detected is pertinent. The impact of SARSCoV-2 on global public health has been profound. The monitoring of the student population using these scales is an element of greater value because, besides its easy applicability and low cost, it allows for the evaluation of health in this population group. New multicentric studies, seeking to assess the geographic role (inside and outside borders) in assessing the levels of assertiveness and cooperation of students from higher education, well-being, soft skills and their relationship with peers, studying how we can reduce the global burden of diseases and preventing consequences of the next pandemic.
- Range values for external and internal intensity monitoring in female soccer players: a systematic reviewPublication . Usually, cohort studies analyse only one team with a relatively small sample size, which brings forth the need for a systematic review to generalise training and match intensity evidence. Objectives: This review aimed to identify and summarise studies that have examined external and internal training or match intensity monitoring to provide range values for the main measures in female soccer players. Methods: A systematic review of EBSCO, PubMed, Scielo, Scopus, SPORTDiscus and Web of Science databases was per formed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results: From the 2853 studies searched, 44 were analysed in which the following range intervals were found for training: rated perceived exertion (RPE, 1–7 AU), session-RPE (s-RPE, 51–721 AU), total distance (2347–6646 m) and distance >19.4 km·h−1 (9– 543 m). For matches, the range values were s-RPE (240–893 AU), total distance (5480–10581 m), distance≥14 km·h−1 (543–2520 m), ≥ 18 km·h−1 (96–1680 m), number of accelerations (49–240) and deceleration (21–85) and player load (848–1096 AU). Conclusions: This study provides range values of s-RPE, RPE, TRIMP, total distance and distance >19.4 km·h−1 regarding training; range intervals of s-RPE, heart rate average and maximum, total distance, distance ≥ 14 km·h−1 , ≥ 18 km·h−1 , ACC and DEC (> 2 ms−2 ) regarding matches for professional female players that can be used by coaches, practitioners or researchers to achieve similar training and competitive levels.
- Design of Data Management Service Platform for Intelligent Electric Vehicle Charging Controller Multi-charger ModelPublication . Baptista, Pedro; Cardoso, Filipe; Rosado, Jose; Caldeira, FilipeThe electric charging solutions for the residential market imply, in many situations, an increase in the contracted power in order to allow to perform an efficient charging cycle that starts when the charger is connected and ends when the VE battery is fully charged. However, the increase in contracted power is not always the best solution for faster and more efficient charging. With a focus on the residential market, the presented architecture is suitable for single-use and shared connection points, which are becoming common in apartment buildings without a closed garage, allowing for sharing the available electrical connections to the grid. The multi-charger architecture allows using one or several common charging points by applying a mesh network of intelligent chargers orchestrated by a residential gateway. Managing the generated data load involves enabling data flow between several independent data producers and consumers. The data stream ingestion system must be scalable, resilient, and extendable.
- Effects of exercise programs on phase angle in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysisPublication . A systematic review was undertaken in multiple electronic databases in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses statement guidelines for the purposes of selecting randomized controlled trials that measured the effects of the exercise programs on PhA in older adults on 31 March 2022. We carried out a random-effect meta-analysis for the effects of exercise programs on PhA. Additionally, we analysed the differences between subgroups in terms of weekly frequency, number of sets and repetitions, and duration of interventions. Studies were methodological assessed through the PEDro scale where one had excellent, ten had good, and three had poor methodological quality. For the purposes of the study, fourteen studies met the criteria for in clusion. However, four studies did not have enough information to be included in the quantitative analysis. The remaining ten articles revealed moderate effects on PhA in favour of intervention groups (p=0.009, SMD=0.72 [0.46–0.99], I 2 =54%). The meta-analysis also showed that interventions lasting twelve weeks are more suc cessful in generating positive effects on PhA as opposed to eight weeks (SMD’s=0.79 vs. 0.64, respectively). These results indicate that resistance training (RT) is an effective and safe to improve PhA in the older people, especially through RT programs lasting from eight to twelve weeks. A novel finding of this study was that RT is the most used type of exercise by authors when assessing the PhA in older adults.
- Transnational cooperation in enhancing researchers’ wider employability: the TRANSPEER projectPublication . Lees, James; Gorini, Lucrezia; Torjussen, Stian; Oliveira, Margarida; Pinto, Paula; Potes Barbas, Maria; Martins, Madalena; Jones, Melanie S.; Sheppard, Victoria; Petronilho, Ana; Trindade, MargaridaPurpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an example of best practice towards enhancing employability in the cross-sectoral labour market for doctorate-holders. This was achieved through an Erasmus+ KA2 (Strategic Partnership) skills development project which created a training programme (TRANSPEER) involving a multi-disciplinary cohort of researchers at a range of career stages, drawn from universities in Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the UK. Design/methodology/approach Research support staff designed and delivered four transnational training events for the cohort, with the overarching theme of enhancing researcher employability. An initial skills awareness survey of the researcher cohort was undertaken prior to the start of the programme; this survey was repeated after each event. An additional aim of the project was the development of the consortium’s research support staff through exposure to the facilitation techniques and methodologies of their international colleagues. Findings The findings indicate that transnational collaboration in researcher development enhances the learning environment for participating researchers and provides significant professional development opportunities for both researchers and researcher developers. The findings further suggest the benefits of mixing cohorts across career stages and engaging researchers with novel and interactive approaches on themes not typically addressed in academic competence development offerings. Originality/value Transversal skills development cooperation between universities – especially transnational cooperation – is rare. Even more so is the professional development of research support staff in a transnational context. This paper outlines the benefits of such collaborative activities.
