- Fitness professionals: narrative review.Publication . Ramos, Liliana; Esteves, Dulce; Franco, Susana; Vieira, Isabel; Simões, VeraThe increasing number of fitness professionals is one of the results associated with the growth of this industry. Understanding the sociodemographic characteristics and different variables related to the intervention of fitness professionals in Portugal will increase the knowledge about this work activity and can also contribute to the improvement of their working and living conditions. This study aims to carry out a narrative review in order to identify the main characteristics of fitness professionals. This identification will allow the building of the conceptual bases necessary for the construction of an instrument that will help to characterize these professionals. The research obtained seven results, three of them reports and four descriptive studies. Most of the characterization variables of fitness professionals refer to age, gender, place of residence and qualifications regarding sociodemographic aspects. Regarding aspects related to the profession, the professionals were characterized mainly in terms of hours of work, salary and the functions performed. Based on the results, the main characteristics were identified and allow us to propose a new evaluation instrument: a questionnaire that will characterize fitness professionals in Portugal - “VIDAPROFIT”.
- Translation, reliability and validity of the job satisfaction scale in a sample of portuguese fitness professionalsPublication . Ramos, Liliana; Esteves, Dulce; Vieira, Isabel; Franco, Susana; Simões, VeraThis study aimed to translate and validate the job satisfaction scale (JSS) to Portuguese fitness professionals. A total of 418 fitness professionals (210 male; 208 female) with an average age of 30.9 ± 6.5 years and a professional experience of 7.72 ± 9.1 years participated in this study. Before conducting a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), we designed a test-retest analysis to determine reliability. Cronbach’s alpha demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (.96), which revealed a high degree of temporal reliability. The confirmatory analyses supported a unidimensional model (1 factor/16 item) of the JSS in terms of model adequacy coefficients. In conclusion, we found that the measurement model (1 factor/16 items) of the translation and validation of the JSS for Portuguese fitness professionals had highly acceptable psychometric properties and can be used in future to access their job satisfaction.
