A presente investigação tem como objetivo, identificar os principais determinantes do crescimento económico dos países membros da União Económica e Monetária Oeste Africana (UEMOA) e os impactos de algumas
variáveis macroeconómicas como o crédito ao setor privado, o investimento direto estrangeiro, a poupança e o índice de preços ao consumidor sobre o crescimento económico. O período temporal escolhido foi o de 1990 a 2020. A base de dados foi construída a partir de dados recolhidos do Banco Mundial sobre a forma de dados em painel, onde se aplicaram os estimadores OLS, efeitos fixos e efeitos aleatórios com recurso ao Software Eviews. Os resultados econométricos demonstram que o crédito ao setor privado e o investimento direto estrangeiro têm um impacto positivo com significância estatística sobre o crescimento económico. Por outro lado, verifica – se que a inflação parece estar controlada nos países da UEMOA, durante o periodo em
análise, uma vez que o coeficiente da variável apresenta um sinal negativo tal como é mencionado pela literatura.
This research aims to identify the main determinants of economic growth in West African Economic Monetary Union (WAEMU) member countries and the impacts of some macroeconomic variables on economic growth, such as private sector credit, foreign direct investment, savings, and the consumer price index. Then, the period chosen was from 1990 to 2020. The database was built from data collected from the World Bank in panel data, where OLS estimators, fixed effects and random effects were applied using the Eviews Software. The econometric results demonstrate that credit to the private sector and foreign direct investment have a statistically significant positive impact on economic growth. On the other hand, inflation appears to be under control in the WAEMU countries during the period under analysis since the variable presents a negative sign, as mentioned in the literature.
